Staining Lodge Junior Golf Academy vs Poulton Golf Club Junior Section

After the reverse fixture was a wash out a month ago Staining Lodge Junior Golf Academy took on Poulton Golf Club Junior Section in another Inter Club Competition. The aim of these series of events is to forge a strong link between the two clubs and help to develop young golfing talent in the area and provide a fun competitive platform for juniors from aged 5 years to 18 years old to play. With 24 players from each side taking part with a diversity of golfing talents the golf course was set up to cater for levels of ability. The older more experienced juniors played the full course from the yellow tees, whilst there was also juniors playing 9 hole competition from the red tees and juniors playing a 9 hole shorter course from the 150 & 200 yard markers on each hole and our youngest juniors playing a 4 hole loop of 100 yard holes. The format for the day was a singles matchplay event where members from each team had been paired up with players from Poulton Golf Club with a similar handicap, with each match being worth one point towards the overall total.

For some of Staining’s juniors this was their first taste of competitive golf and for a couple, the first time they had completed a full 9 holes in one go. All the Staining juniors are part of the clubs Junior Academy and are integrated within the structured coaching programme incorporating the Bitesize Golf Porgramme, this offers a comprehensive junior golf coaching programme throughout the year, using the Bitesize Junior Coaching Programme. The Bitesize Golf Academy is a fully structured programme that includes ten progressive levels of attainment. With ten resource books covering ten different topic categories, the Bitesize Golf Academy offers a complete learning experience to boys and girls alike and is ran by Staining Professionals Tony Johnstone and Gavin Forsyth. The Bitesize Junior Academy runs throughout the year on Saturdays and Sundays and is also incorporated within the Club’s Junior Summer Camps.

As in the reverse fixture last month the 18 hole matches were nip and tuck throughout with all three games going down the 18th hole, where Harry Lord Moulding narrowly beat Poulton Junior Captain Will Threlfall and Same Yates and Sam Rowe both lost on the final hole to Ben Smith and Jordan Thompson.

All the matches were played in great spirit despite the early rain showers and all juniors were a credit to their respective clubs as fun and sportsmanship were the themes of the day, as parents followed each group and assisted with scoring many commented on how well the juniors understood the game and were respectful to their opponents. These types of friendly competitions really help to motivate the juniors and give them opportunity to play against other juniors and experience a different golf course. Many of the Poulton Juniors had only ever played their own course so this was a great opportunity to experience something different and have to play different types of shots on the course and adapt to the different conditions.

All juniors and their families then shared together their experiences of the day in a family BBQ on the patio at Staining Lodge before the final results of days matches were revealed, where Staining narrowly beat their opponents 14.5 to 9.5points.
